RHJ: What passion came first: herpetology or
painting? When did these passions first meet?
TH: I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want
to be an artist. My passion for drawing and
painting, especially wildlife and natural history,
has stayed with me since my early childhood.
I was inspired by the travels of David
Attenborough, and other naturalists, and knew
that I would one day follow in their footsteps.
My passion for reptiles came later, in my early
teens, after discovering a colony of adders
within walking distance of my home.
