The Responsible Herpetoculture Journal (RHJ) was established as a response to the lack of systematic, verified information on modern Herpetoculture and the need to communicate this
knowledge to both profile audience and the wider public. Today, RHJ is a prominent media
resource of The Responsible Herpetoculture Foundation (RHF), covering popular science topics
across Herpetology, Herpetoculture (including conservation, education, and policy), and Herping.
Over the past four years, RHJ has successfully assembled a unique international editorial
board, bringing together experts from Australia, Europe, China, South-East Asia, the USA, and
South America. Despite the challenges and complex logistics presented to us in recent years,
RHF continues to evolve, maintaining both digital and print periodicals. In addition to the
flagship publication, the RHF Library releases Special Editions, such as ‘Herping Worldwide’,
‘Zoos Worldwide: Herp Collections’, ‘Herpetoculture Artworks’, and many more.
We sat down with Dmitri Tkachev, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of RHJ, to discuss the
development of the journal, its internal structure, and its philosophy.
