California red-legged frog makes comeback in Napa County

by Joeby Ragpa - Mar. 13, 2024

The threatened California red-legged frog is finding a home in Napa County, thriving on the Wragg Ridge Preserve wetlands just south of Lake Berryessa.

The frog is the largest native frog of its size in the Western U.S.

An effort to restore the frog’s decimated population began in February 2022 on the preserve owned by the Land Trust of Napa County, according to the organization. It’s a multi-pronged project led by the land trust, California Department of Fish and Wildlife and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
