Australian researchers are well on their way to saving more than one million turtles through the creation of an app TurtleSAT which collects data from citizen scientists to help identify probable habitats that freshwater turtles will use to nest.
The TurtleSAT app enables citizen scientists to take part in hands-on conservation such as habitat restoration, nest protection and management of invasive predators. Recordings of sightings are also reducing deaths from roadkill and other causes.
