In Papua New Guinea five frog species were discovered described by scientists for the first time.

  • The slender spotted treefrog (Litoria gracilis)
  • the Crater Mountain treehole frog (Litoria naispela)
  • the Darai Plateau treefrog (L. daraiensis)
  • red-bellied treefrog (L. haematogaster)
  • Lisa’s treefrog (L. lisae)

“It’s only just now that we’re starting to document these behaviours and it emphasises just how comparatively poorly known, this incredibly, world-beatingly diverse frog fauna in New Guinea is.” says researchers.
